How to choose the right wig for you

With so many options available, choosing the right wig can seem daunting. There's full lace, lace front, 360 lace wig, 5x5 lace closure wig, 4x4 lace closure wig, U-Part, V-Part and everything else in between........but choosing the right wig doesn't have to be complicated.

To simplify the process consider these five things when looking for a wig, budget, versatility, colour, density and style. First thing you should ask yourself is what your budget is. If you're opting for a cheaper wig, expectations need to be managed as there will always be a clear difference in terms of quality between a £100 wig and an £800 wig. Also if you know what your budget is you'll know what brands to gravitate to and which ones to avoid.

Next is versatility, how versatile do you want your unit? Do you want to be able to put it up in a ponytail? or will you be wearing it down most of the time? Keep your budget in mind as this will dictate how much versatility you can have. For example if your budget is £100 and you want to be able to put your hair up in a ponytail it's unlikely you'll get a full lace wig or a 360 lace wig for that price. You may have to opt for a 4x4 closure wig instead and be resourceful with how you style it.

If you're looking to experiment with a bit of colour but not sure of the shade, try searching for models/actresses  with similar complexions to you and see how the colours they choose work with their skin tone, pinterest is a good one to use for this OR try 'Just colour my hair' by L'Oreal, it allows you to upload an image of yourself and change your hair colour virtually.

In terms of density, most wigs will start at 80% and go up to 200%. 120% is the 'normal' density for a natural looking lace wig. In terms of bundles, 2 ( 100g) bundles and a closure is usually enough for a full wig on any looks shorter than 16". Looks longer than 16" would require 3 (100g) bundles minimum for fullness.

Lastly, style. Style can be a complicated one as it is truly individual. But if you're looking to try something new and aren't sure where to start, I would start with your face shape. Using the diagram below work out which shape is closest to yours. Once you know this, finding the perfect style becomes a whole lot easier especially if you're purchasing wigs online.
